RME0MWMP–Sep. 27, 1956 - A Polish Air Force Lieutenant landed one of the latest type MIG jet fighters on the tiny airfield at Roenne on the Baltic Island of Bornholm and asked for political asylum. The MIG is of a design previously unknown to Western experts. It is believed to be an improved version of the MIG 15. The Polish Air Force is highly efficient and is intensively preparing to play its part in the National defence should Poland be attacked. All planes are now produced by the Polish state, and a fine new Government factory adjoins the flying field. The factory includes staff dining rooms, has flats for the housing of employees and even has its own shopping centre. All the aircraft made there are of metal, most of which is mined in Poland. Phot
