RM2J2T49J–Popular pony... Minnie the pony was the star attraction at a spring fair held by Quarry Hill Playschool, Waterloo, yesterday. Sophie Cuthbert, a member of the playgroup, took her pony to the fair to give rides to the other children. The event was held at St Michael and St Helen Church, Waterloo, where the playschool meets, and it included stalls, a tombola and raffle. Proceeds amounted to £55 to help pay for a new cover for the playschool's outdoor sandpit. 13th May 1992.
RM2J2MN7T–Dragon Slayers at Bradley Junior School put on a production of a traditional English play. The Pace-Egg play, which tells the story of St George and the dragon, dates back to the 17th century. A version from the Halifax area was put on stage by the Bradley pupils. The play which was performed for parents, pupils, a playgroup and the residents of a local old people's home was a great success and pupils hope to repeat it again next year. 20th May 1991.
RM2J2MGMK–Working with Welephant... West Yorkshire Fire Service's safety conscious friend visited Rowley Hill playgroup. The visit was arranged by care trainee Clair Hannam, who is on work placement with the group. She organised the visit as a project for the City and Guilds course in care, which she is taking through Y Training, Lockwood. Welephant (pictured with Station Officer Harry Stoyles, of Birkenshaw) told children about fire safety and the dangers of playing with matches. Station Officer Stoyles spoke about firefighters. 18th June 1991.
RM2J2MB21–If you go down to the woods today... Golcar playgroup raised £110 for the Candlelighters children's cancer charity at a Teddy Bears' Picnic. The children aged between two-and-a-half and four-and-a-half, raised the cash with toys, games and stalls. Mrs Susan Kain (centre), of the charity's Huddersfield branch, received the cheque with the help of her daughter. Seven-year-old Samantha, pictured with her mother, is a former member of the group. RM2J2MA6K–Play pennies... these children wrote the name of their playgroup with coins instead of a pen. More than 20 children from Meltham Mills Church Playgroup collected 1,000 pennies as part of national play week. The £10 raised will go towards new toys for the playgroup, which meets at St James's Church, Meltham Mills. The playgroup takes children from two-and-a-half to school age and new members will be joining in September. RM2J2D9G3–Four-year-old Emily Sylvester presents a £300 cheque to National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children regional organiser Mr Russell Smith, from Crosland Hill Playgroup and Mother and Toddler Club. The money was raised when some 30 children from the two groups took part in a sponsored walk around the grounds of Crosland Hill Methodist Church, where they meet. A cake stall and tombola were organised to boost the proceeds and cream teas were served. The presentation was held at the church, when Mr Smith gave a talk and showed a film on the work of the NSPCC. 16th September 1986.
RMET02AE–When it came to a request for cash for a Middlesbrough playgroup scheme the local sigmas regiment fell in at the double. The determined dozen ran a gruelling 41 miles from Gateshead to regimental headquarters at Brambles Farm Middlesbrough. to raise over £100 for the estate's children's summer playgroup project.
