Lance Corporal Ledwidge is considered by many to be a poetic talent equal to the best. This memorial, similar to that erected for Ivor Guerney, both of them on the Writers Path, carries a photo of the poet and lines from his poem Soliloquy. Behind the plinth the Irish flag flies and on 27 March 2010 an apple tree was plante in his memory. He was killed on 31 July 1917 and is buried in the adjacent Artillery Wood CWGC Cemetery, where Welshman Ellis Humphrey Ellis (Bard winner,Hedd Wyn) killled on the same day, is also buried.
