RM2GH69NA–A Hawker Siddeley HS 748 airliner of New Zealand’s Mount Cook Airlines on the tarmac at Queenstown Airport in 1979 with the Southern Alps behind. Mount Cook Airline was a regional airline, founded in 1920, based in Christchurch. It later became a subsidiary of Air New Zealand and in 2019 the brand name was retired. This aircraft is named ‘Aorangi’, a Maori name. On the aircraft tail is an image of the Mount Cook lily (Ranunculus lyallii), the largest buttercup in the world. This image is from an old amateur Kodak colour transparency – a vintage 1970s photograph.
