The Jockey, 1899. Motivated by the popularity of the races, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec executed this lithograph both in colour, seen here, and in black and white. He intended to publish the colour version in a portfolio of horse-racing subjects, but the project never came to fruition and Jockey was published alone. The artist's admiration for Edgar Degas's horse-racing pictures is clear in Jockey , and he shared Degas's appreciation of Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints. Iran/Persia: 'Never hence would I die for I am alive, having sown the seeds of poetry'. Gurgin betrays Bizhan. Miniature painting from the Shahnameh, c. 16th century. The Shahnameh or Shah-nama (Šāhnāmeh, 'The Book of Kings') is a long epic poem written by the Persian poet Ferdowsi between c. 977 and 1010 CE and is the national epic of Iran and related Perso-Iranian cultures. Consisting of some 60,000 verses, the Shahnameh tells the mythical and to some extent the historical past of Greater Iran from the creation of the world until the Islamic conquest of Persia in the 7th century. Equus caballus, Print, The horse (Equus ferus caballus) is one of two extant subspecies of Equus ferus. It is an odd-toed ungulate mammal belonging to the taxonomic family Equidae. The horse has evolved over the past 45 to 55 million years from a small multi-toed creature, Eohippus, into the large, single-toed animal of today. Humans began domesticating horses around 4000 BC, and their domestication is believed to have been widespread by 3000 BC. Roadside Halt. Artist: Richard Parkes Bonington (British, Arnold, Nottinghamshire 1802-1828 London). Dimensions: 18 1/4 x 14 7/8 in. (46.4 x 37.8 cm). Date: 1826. Set in Normandy, this canvas of 1826 is painted with a fluidity and lightness akin to watercolor, a medium in which Bonington excelled. Although the artist had been painting with oils for only about four years, works such as this were sufficiently remarkable to impress Eugène Delacroix, who wrote: 'I could never weary of admiring his marvelous understanding of effects, and the facility of his execution.'. Przewalski's horses are the only surviving horse subspecies which has never been domesticated. In China, they are mainly found in Xinjiang's Junggar Basin. Researchers at the Xinjiang Wild Horse Breeding and Research Center have applied multiple adjustments to the horse populations in order to avoid close inbreed
Horses in the subspecies caballus are domesticated, although some domesticated populations live in the wild as feral horses. Cpl. Lubatty demonstrates the contrast between the gas masks used by the man and horse in this photograph. Unlike humans who breathe through their mouth, horses never breathe through theirs, which makes creating a gas mask for them simpler. It has been observed that horses can survive several hours during a gas attack without a mask, showing no ill effects. This image was captured in Chatel, Ardennes, France, by a photographer on October 27, 1918, and received on December 18, 1918. It was released by the A.E.P. Censor on December 23, 1918.
