John III Comyn, aka Lord of Badenoch, Lord of Lochaber and the Red Comyn (1269–1306), was a Scottish nobleman during the First War of Scottish Independence, and Guardian of Scotland during the Second Interregnum. Comyn was killed by Robert the Bruce (1274 – 1329) before the high altar of the Greyfriars Church in Dumfries on 10 February 1306 following an argument. Although Bruce was excommunicated by the Pope he moved quickly to seize the throne and was crowned and remained king of Scots on 25 March 1306 until his death in 1329.
