Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122 – 1204) was Queen consort of England from 1154–1189. She was originally married to King Louis VII of France, but as the marriage had not produced a son it was annulled. Just eight weeks later she married her third cousin King Henry II of England and over the next thirteen years, she bore Henry five sons, including King Richard I and King John. He allowed her to continue to practise her religion by renovating (ca. AD 580) an existing church and dedicating to Saint Martin of Tours, a city located near where Bertha grew up. St Martins is the first church founded in England, the oldest parish church in continuous use and the oldest church in the entire English-speaking world. They had one son Robert de Scales. Joan married as her second husband, Sir Edmund de Thorpe, envoy from Henry V. to th Duke of Burgundy and was slain at the siege of Lover's Castle, Normandy, but was buried here.
