Charge of the Light Brigade (October 1854) was a disastrous British cavalry charge against heavily defended Russian troops at the Battle of Balaklava during the Crimean War (1853-56). The suicidal attack was made famous by Alfred, Lord Tennyson in his 1855 poem of the same name. Richard Caton Woodville Jr.(1825-1855) was an English artist and illustrator, who is best known for being one of the most prolific and effective painters of battle scenes in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
