The liner United States, 53,300 tons, passed the Bishop Rock at 6.16 a.m. to-day (Monday) to win the Atlantic Blue Riband from the Cunard ship Queen Mary. America's new liner passed the rock in a roaring gals after making the trans-atlantic crossing in three days ten hours 40 minutes - ten hours and two minutes faster than the old record held by the Queen Mary.
