First to the Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa, where he was under the care of the monks until 1802, and then to the military prison of Bellver Castle (1802-1808). After the fall of Godoy during the Mutiny of Aranjuez, Jovellanos was freed on 6 April 1808 from the Bellver Castle prison. Engraving.
