RMKK7N2G–October 2017: Here is a photo of the 11-ton impact hammer crews use to secure the last ten feet of each steel support column into place. The impact hammer sounds like a loud, monster-sized jackhammer. To reduce noise, crews use a quieter vibratory hammer to vibrate 90 percent of the pile deep into the sea bed first before finishing it off with the louder impact hammer.
