RMWH8J06–Jean Bouvet de Lozier (1705 -1786) was a French sailor, explorer and governor of the Mascarene Islands. With his ships Aigle and Marie he discovered on January 1, 1739 the tiny island of Bouvetøya, which is named after him. Shortly afterwards, he had to abandon the expedition because most of his crew had fallen ill and returned to the Cape of Good Hope and later to France.
