The Battles of Khalkhin Gol were the decisive engagements of the undeclared Soviet-Japanese Border War fought between the Soviet Union, Mongolia and Japan in 1939. They were named after the river Khalkhin Gol, which passes through the battlefield. In Japan, the decisive battle of the conflict is known as the Nomonhan Incident (Nomonhan Jiken) after a nearby village, and was a total defeat for their army.

He was born on 28th March 1899 at Upton-On-Severn, Worcestershire. Died on 6th February 1976. He later went to be made a Captain and then a Brigadier Major in the KSLI. During World War II his aircraft was shot down and he was a Prisoner Of War until the end of the war. Photograph was taken at the famous London studios of Alexander Bassano.
