It was the first of what the Chinese called the unequal treaties because Britain had no obligations in return. RM2B01DE5–USA/Japan: The USS Bunker Hill hit by two Japanese kamikaze aircraft off Kyushu, 11 May, 1945. Kamikaze ('divine wind') were suicide attacks by military aviators from the Empire of Japan against Allied naval vessels in the closing stages of the Pacific campaign of World War II, designed to destroy as many warships as possible. Kamikaze pilots would attempt to crash their aircraft into enemy ships in planes laden with explosives, bombs, torpedoes and full fuel tanks. The aircraft's normal functions (to deliver torpedoes or bombs or shoot down other aircraft) were put aside.

RMDYEGMG–German submarine rammed by the British Destroyer Badger, off the Belgian coast. On October 24th 1914, when the great Battle of the Coast was raging between Nieuport and Ypres and when the British warships were shelling the German positions, German submarines, which had invaded the British mine-field north and west of Ostend, made many daring attempts to get home torpedo attacks, which were successfully foiled by the presence of several British protecting destroyers.

After sinking nine Allied merchant ships in the Atlantic, she was tracked down by British warships in December 1939 and was damaged in he ensuing Battle of the River Plate. She put into Montevideo for repairs where she could stay for 72 hours. Rather than face destruction by waiting enemy warships and lose the lives of his whole crew, Captain Langsdorff scuttled his ship at the harbour estuary on 17 December.
