According to the Mekong Exporation Commission's report: “Alevy decided to atone for his past sins in Peunom [Wat Phanom]. Once there, he had his head shaved, donned the monk's robe and after a night in prayer went to consult the pagoda's resident monk … The old man, after a few moments' reflection, told him simply: 'My son, follow your heart.'
RM2B02GYN–This triptych illustrates an episode from the life of the popular hero Yoshitsune (1159-89), who was also known as Ushiwaka-maru (young ox). On one of his nightly outings from the temple, 12-year-old Yoshitsune encountered Benkei on the Gojo Bridge in Kyoto. Benkei, a wild giant of a man, had been told by a sword-smith that he could forge a magic sword from the tips and cutting edges of a thousand blades. He obtained the swords by attacking samurai warriors crossing the Gojo Bridge. One night he saw the young Ushiwaka approaching; he was carrying what would be his one-thousandth sword. Benke
RM2B0275D–Raja Shri Man Singh Ji Saheb (Man Singh I) (December 21, 1550 – July 6, 1614) was the Kacchwaha King of Amber, a state later known as Jaipur. He was a trusted general of the Mughal emperor Akbar, who included him among the Navaratnas, or the 9 (nava) gems (ratna) of the royal court. Amber was a city of Rajasthan state, India, it is now part of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation. Founded by the Meena Raja Alan Singh, Amber was a flourishing settlement as far back as 967 CE. According to the Matsya Purana, the king of pre-ancient Dravida and a devotee of Vishnu, Satyavrata, who later was known as Manu, was washing his hands in a river when a little fish swam into his hands and pleaded with him to save its life. He put it in a jar, which it soon outgrew. He then moved it to a tank, a river and then finally the ocean but to no avail. The fish then revealed himself to be Vishnu and told him that a deluge would occur within seven days that would destroy all life.
RM2B015G9–China: The celebrated Peking Opera singer Meng Xiaodong (1907-1977). Meng Xiaodong was born in Shanghai in 1907 and by the age of 13 was already singing Peking Opera at the Da Shijie 'Great World' Entertainment Complex. During the course of her professional career she sang all over China, always returning to Shanghai. In Chinese opera, she always played bearded men. In 1925, Shanghai-born 18 year-old Meng Xiaodong met Mei Lanfang for the first time while performing on stage together during a minister's birthday party in Beijing.
