She is on a four day visit to London and is visiting the Elgin Marbles shown at the British Museum. The Greek Government intend to make an official request for the return of the marbles. The Elgin Marbles have been at the British Museum since the British government purchased them in 1816. Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin, removed many of the marbles from the Parthenon after obtaining a controversial permit from the Ottoman authorities to remove pieces from the Acropolis.
