. 2nd Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers Captain Ward was born in Jamaica. He served in the Second Anglo-Boer War and received the Queen's South Africa Medal with two clasps. He received the Distinguished Service Order (DSO), the Africa General Service Medal with three clasps and was Mentioned in Despatches for his services in the Colonial Office between 1901 and 1903. He was killed on 26 August 1914. He is commemorated at the La Ferte-sous-Jouarre Memorial in France.
