He reigned from 17 June 1797 to 23 October 1834, during which Iran permanently lost its northern territories in the Caucasus (modern day Armenia, Azerbaijan, Dagestan and Georgia) to the Russian Empire after the Russo-Persian Wars of 1804-1813 and 1826-1828. He reigned from 17 June 1797 to 23 October 1834, during which Iran permanently lost its northern territories in the Caucasus (modern day Armenia, Azerbaijan, Dagestan and Georgia) to the Russian Empire after the Russo-Persian Wars of 1804-1813 and 1826-1828. By the end of his reign, Iran was on the verge of collapsing due to severe economic problems.
