The Old Hall in the Grammar School of King Edward VI in Stratford-upon-Avon Warwickshire, England. There's been an educational facility there since at least the early thirteenth century - established by the Guild of the Holy Cross and, the School can trace its origins to May 1295. It is likely that the playwright and poet William Shakespeare attended the school between the ages of seven and fourteen. His father, John Shakespeare, a glover and wool dealer in the town, held the office of bailiff of the borough in 1568. As a child, William would have been entitled to a free place at the school. Wolsey’s Gate, adjacent to St Peter’s church, is all that remains of the College founded by Cardinal Wolsey, in Ipswich. Built of red brick it was erected in about 1528. The College of St Mary was intended to incorporate the existing grammar school and was linked to Wolsey’s college of Christ Church Oxford. The following year, the School was flourishing, attended by local boys and boys from all parts of the kingdom, but Wolsey’s fall from grace signalled the end of the college.
