RM2M3K5PP–Punishment in the army was meted out at the camp whipping post where the victim was flogged by a police-sergeant of his own race, under the orders of an English officer. This is an illustration of the one at Inquabim which was sketched during the 2nd Ashanti War (1873-74). In 1873, after decades of an uneasy relationship between the British and the Acing people of central Ghana, the British attacked and virtually destroyed the Asanti capital of Kumasi, and officially declared Ghana a crown colony on 24 July 1874. RM2K5FP25–The shopping parade at Butlin’s Clacton holiday camp in the mid-1960s. The kiosk corner shop sells ‘sweets and cigs’. A sign for ‘The Blinking Owl’ is for an onsite pub. Billy Butlin created a new holiday camp at Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, England, UK, by buying and refurbishing the West Clacton Estate, an amusement park to the west of the town. The Clacton camp was open until 1983 when the holiday camp was closed and sold – it reopened it as a theme park called Atlas Park. Atlas Park only lasted a year and the land was then sold and redeveloped for housing – a vintage 1960s photograph.

RM2HDX1AW–Original WW1 era postcard of young recruits at an Officer training camp - they were Officer Training Corps (junior division) from Charterhouse School of the Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment (The Queens) - which was based at Stoughton Barracks, in Guildford. On their cap badges the recruits have a version of the Queens badge with a Charterhouse banner instead of a Queens banner underneath the Paschal lamb symbol. On the RH tent is written corps 8 hut, the boys have a Charterhouse 19 sign at their feet. The older recruit holding the baton is perhaps a leader or mentor to the younger boys. U.K.

RM2K5FP20–Action on the putting green on a sunny day at Butlin’s holiday camp in Bognor in 1964. The resort is on the south-coast at Bognor Regis, West Sussex, England, UK. Butlin's presence in the town began in 1932 with the opening of an amusement park; soon it expanded to take in a zoo. In 1960, Billy Butlin opened his first post-war mainland holiday camp here. The camp survived a series of cuts in the early 1980s, attracting further investment and again in the late 1990s when it was retained as one of only three camps still bearing the Butlin name – a vintage 1960s photograph.
