After the battle, the crown of Richard III, the last king of the House of York, killed during the battle, was found. Lord Stanley brought it to Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond, who became the first English monarch of the Tudor dynasty by his victory and subsequent marriage to a Yorkist princess.

There is a legend that Queen Margaret of Anjou took refuge after the battle in what is known as The Queen's Cave, where she was accosted by a robber, but in reality Queen Margaret had fled to France by the time the battle took place.
