Anne Boleyn lived in Durham House in 1532 while Henry VIII courted her prior to their marriage in 1533. Henry granted Durham House to his daughter Lady Elizabeth (later queen). The Holbein Gate (also known as the King's Gate or the Cockpit Gate) and Westminster Gate were constructed by Henry VIII to connect parts of the Tudor Palace of Whitehall. The gateway was one of two substantial parts of the Palace to survive a catastrophic fire in January 1698. It was demolished in 1759.
