RMRHPNEG–At the time of the Armada, Elizabeth reviews the troops at Tilbury. By Henry Justice Ford (1860-1941). The Spanish Armada (Grande y Felicísima Armada) was a Habsburg Spanish fleet of 130 ships, under the command of the Duke of Medina Sidonia, with the purpose of escorting an army from Flanders to invade England. The aim was to overthrow Queen Elizabeth I and her establishment of Protestantism in England. On 8th August 1588 Elizabeth went to Tilbury to encourage her forces, and the next day, legend has it, arrived on horseback in her own personal battle armour.
RMT953E6–The Spanish Armada was the Spanish fleet that sailed against England in 1588, with the intention of overthrowing Elizabeth I of England and putting an end to her involvement in the Spanish Netherlands and in privateering in the Atlantic and Pacific. In the ensuing battle, the Spanish fleet was forced to abandon its rendezvous.
