RMERGCCH–Autograph: Letter, commonly known as the 'Durham letter', written by Earl Russell as Lord Russell, First Lord of the Treasury to Edward Maltby, Bishop of Durham. Lord Russell writes on the aggression of the Pope in establishing Roman Catholic bishropics in England, and on the Romish tendencies of certain clergymen of the English Church. Letter written at Downing Street, 4 November 1850 and presented in 1896 by Lieutenant G.R. Maltby.
