RM2B030P4–On Monday, August 6, 1945, at 8:15 am, the nuclear bomb 'Little Boy' was dropped on Hiroshima by an American B-29 bomber, the Enola Gay, directly killing an estimated 80,000 people. By the end of the year, injury and radiation brought the total number of deaths to 90,000–166,000. The population before the bombing was around 340,000 to 350,000. Approximately 70% of the city's buildings were destroyed, and another 7% severely damaged.

RMWP6NX9–[ 1930s Japan - Pagoda at Shitennoji Temple ] — The Kondo (Golden Hall) and the five-story pagoda at Shitennoji Temple in Osaka.Both are based in the center of the temple buildings. Shitennoji Temple was founded by Prince Shotoku (Shotoku Taishi, 574-622) in 593 during Japan’s first wave of temple construction. The Kondo and the pagoda, were completely destroyed by US firebombs in March 1945 (Showa 20). In the early 1960s, they were rebuilt in concrete. 20th century vintage postcard.

Matsushima was created in 1868 (Meiji 1), nearby Osaka’s foreign settlement of Kawaguchi. The brothel district was established the following year. In 1945, the area was completely destroyed by US fire-bombings. 20th century vintage postcard.

RM2C0CTAB–[ 1930s Japan - Tokyo Station ] — Tokyo Station, located in the Marunouchi business district of Tokyo, near the Imperial Palace grounds and the Ginza commercial district. Early 1930s. The building was designed by architect Kingo Tatsuno (辰野金吾, 1854–1919) to celebrate Japan’s victory in the Russo-Japanese War. He patterned the domes, destroyed during the firebombings of 1945 (Showa 20), after Amsterdam’s central station. The station was completed on December 18, 1914 (Taisho 3), and opened on the 20th. 20th century vintage gelatin silver print.
