The gun fired and the barbed spear penetrated a door before embedding itself in his wife's leg. Winner hacked away part of the spear while a doctor gave Mrs. Winner a pain-killing drug. Later doctors at St. Vincent's Hospital removed the rest of the spear. Mrs. Winner today is recovering at home. August 06, 1954.

RM2HX57HF–Last of the old Australian bush poets, Roderick Quinn, died last night, aged 79. Rod Quinn was a close friend of Henry Lawson until Lawson's death in 1922. Lawson and Quinn were in the habit of meeting under the lights in Hyde Park and comparing their verse. Quinn in his younger days was a clerk, a schoolteacher, and later a journalist. His most treasured possession since 1922 was Henry Lawson's cherrywood pipe, which occupied a place pride in his home. A weeek ago he entered the Hospice for the Dying, Darlinghurst. He died peacefully in his sleep. May 04, 1937.
