The Silver Pagoda is located on the south side of the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh and is the official temple of the King of Cambodia. The temple's full official name is Preah Vihear Preah Keo Morakot, but is commonly referred to as Wat Preah Keo. Its main building houses many national treasures such as a small 17th-century baccarat crystal Buddha and a life-sized gold Maitreya Buddha decorated with 9,584 diamonds, the largest of which weighs 25 carats.

It was the first in a series of World's Fairs, exhibitions of culture and industry that became popular in the 19th century. A special building, nicknamed The Crystal Palace built to house the show was designed by Joseph Paxton who drew on Paxton's experience designing greenhouses with support from structural engineer Charles Fox.

Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins (February 8, 1807 - January 27, 1894) was an English sculptor and natural history artist. He was appointed assistant superintendent of the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London. The following year (1852), he was appointed by the Crystal Palace company to create 33 life-size concrete models of extinct dinosaurs to be placed in the south London park to which the great glass exhibition hall was to be relocated.
