RFHE581D–This painting, titled Flirtation, was done by the English Victorian historical and portrait painter John Seymour Lucas (1849-1923). The painting dates to 1885. Lucas is noted for his close knowledge of the costumes of certain periods. Flirtation represents a country squire paying court to a tenant-farmer's attractive daughter under the pretense of taking some refreshment. The accomplished man of the world, wholly at his ease, and the girl in an attitude hovering between surprise and coquetry, are admirably conceived.
