27 July 2020, Brandenburg, Kartzow: The common loosestrife grows in the Ferbitzer Bruch nature reserve in the Döberitzer Heide near the village of Kartzow. The herbaceous plant is one of the few species in Central Europe that attracts insects with oil instead of nectar. The village of Ferbitz used to be close to the reserve, but was abandoned when the military training area was expanded in 1936. Even before the military left the area, in 1990 the Förderverein Döberitzer Heide e.V. achieved official protection of the area as a nature reserve, which then became official in 1996.
