This was one of the first types of radiolocation station to be erected in the defence of Great Britain. There exist two main Chain Home types, known as the East Coast and the West Coast. The East Coast was the first to be erected and is characterised by 360ft hugh, self-supporting, steel transmitting towers. The West Coast type of station uses 325ft high, guyed, steel transmitting masts.
