This carte-de-visite photograph depicts an Arab in the Dutch colonial capital of Batavia (present-day Jakarta) preparing for the hajj. The Arabs in Southeast Asia generally were from the area of Hadramaut in the southern part of Arabia. During the 19th century, the number of Arabs immigrating to Asia increased, but they remained tied to their homeland and often used the wealth acquired in their new homes to finance projects in Arabia.

RM2BNX64E–A carte de visite (CDV) photographic portrait of Lady Churchill (Jennie Spencer-Churchill CI RRC DStJ (née Jerome) 1854 – 1921) who was an American-born British socialite, the wife of Lord Randolph Churchill and the mother of British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill. She was of Huguenot extraction and her forebears emigrated to America from the Isle of Wight in 1710. The family also claimed to have Iroquois ancestry through her maternal grandmother. After an accident in 1921, age 67, complications set in and her leg was amputated leading to her death from gangrene the following month.
