RMJW21KT–Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) and her husband Cyril Stowe, along with their daughters, on the porch of their post-Civil War winter home in Mandarin, Florida overlooking the St. Johns River. The Stowes were abolitionists and Mrs. Stowe was an author, best known for her novel Uncle Tom's Cabin. The Stowes wintered in Mandarin (now a Jacksonville neighborhood) between 1867 and 1884. Stories about Mandarin are compiled in the book Palmetto Leaves, written by Harriet. The Stowes would host Bible studies in their home where Cyril would teach, often on the porch pictured here.
