The House in Derby, England where Charles Edward Stuart (1720-1788), claimant to the throne of Great Britain, aka 'The Young Pretender' or 'Bonnie Prince Charlie', stayed during his attempt to gain the throne. The Jacobite cause was still supported by many Highland clans and Charles gathered a force large enough to enable him to take Edinburgh, then Carlisle and his army progressed as far as Derbyshire. Here, despite Charles' objections, his council decided to return to Scotland, and the Jacobites marched north, and were beaten at the Battle of Culloden on 16 April 1746.
