Slavery was an accepted practice in ancient Greece. The ancient Greeks had several words to indicate slaves depending on context (i.e. captured in war, employed servant, an adopted houseboy, farm labourer etc). The marrying of freemen and women and slaves was not uncommon, indicating a complex structure in their relationships and in the common perception of their place , individual status or situation in society.
