This man was a US Mail carrier in the early 1880s in Wisconsin, US. In at least the year 1939, his normal route was to walk, delivering the mail from Milwaukee to Green Bay, Wis., a distance of 205 miles. He had no horse; he just walked all by himself, all the way in both directions. We think it took him nearly a week in each direction. These are the actual clothes he wore during those long hikes. He had this photograph taken in 1889, on the 50th Anniversary of his last official delivery.
