RM2HDGK3M–1975, historicai, exterior view of the Candlelight wedding chapel in Las Vegas, USA, located at the corner of Riviera on a highway known as the Strip, a famous thoroughfare in the gambling town. It originallly opened in 1966 as the Chapel of the West Algiers, its then owner, Jack Walsh, also owning the nearby Algiers Hotel. At this time, the Strip was mainly hotels, gas stations, restaurants and desert, with the hotels set back from the road. Many famous people got married at the Candlelight, including singer Barry White and Clayton Moore, the Lone Ranger. It closed in 2003.

The Boots store in Cathedral Square was is dated 1911, and was designed by Boots' in-house architect Michael Vyne Treleaven. The statues on the facade were sculpted by Gilbert Seale & Son of Camberwell, London, and depict Athelwold, King Peada of Mercia, Henry VIII, Prince Rupert and the Earl of Essex. The premises were later occupied by Wimpy and Burger King restaurants.

In place of the City Palace, which was demolished in 1950, the Palace of the Republic was built from 1973 onwards, 180 m long and 32 m wide. Inside were various facilities. Events were held in the large hall, which held 5000 visitors. The GDR Volkskammer (people's chamber) met in the small hall. There were also restaurants and cafes for 1500 guests.
