Built in 1866, it was designed by Thomas Henry Wyatt, an Anglo-Irish architect, who had a distinguished career, being elected President of the Royal Institute of Briitsh Architects in 1870 and it's receipent of the Royal Gold Medal for Architecture in 1873. The school closed in 1950 and parts of it were only saved in 2010 by a fund-raising campaign to make the school hall into a local community centre.
