The River Fleet is the largest of London's subterranean rivers. Its headwaters are two streams on Hampstead Heath, each of which was dammed into a series of ponds—the Hampstead Ponds and the Highgate Ponds—in the 18th century. At the southern edge of Hampstead Heath these descend underground as sewers and join in Camden Town. The waters flow 4 miles from the ponds along the Fleet Ditch to the River Thames. Exeter, is an English cathedral city, located on the River Exe and county town of Devon. In the late 18th Century, Exeter's industry developed on the basis of locally available agricultural products and ready access to water power, on an early industrial site developed on drained marshland to the west of the city, at Exe Island. However, when steam power replaced water in the 19th century, Exeter was too far from sources of coal (or iron) to develop further and the city declined in relative importance. North Foreland Lighthouse on the chalk headland on the Kent coast of southeast England. The original lighthouse was burnt down in the year 1683, and replaced at the end of the same century with a strong octagonal structure of flint. Erected on the top was an iron grate quite open to the air in which a fire was kept blazing at night. Around 1732 the top of this lighthouse was covered with a sort of lantern with large sash windows with the fire was kept bright by bellows. The Admiralty, in Whitehall, London, England, was the government department responsible for the command of the Royal Navy in the Kingdom of Great Britain, and from 1801 to 1964, the United Kingdom and former British Empire. The oldest part known as The Admiralty is a three-storey U-shaped brick building designed by Thomas Ripley and completed in 1726 and notable for being perhaps the first purpose-built office building in Great Britain for the Lords of the Admiralty. Malaysia has its origins in the Malay Kingdoms present in the area which, from the 18th century, became subject to the British Empire. The first British territories were known as the Straits Settlements, whose establishment was followed by the Malay kingdoms becoming British protectorates. The territories on Peninsular Malaysia were first unified as the Malayan Union in 1946. China: A Mongol/Yuan Dynasty war junk (Hai Fanchuan). Drawing from the book 'Liuqiu Guozhi Lue' (Annals of Ryukyu) by Zhou Huang (1714-1785), c. 1757-1759. A junk is an ancient Chinese sailing vessel design still in use today. Junks were developed during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE) and were used as sea-going vessels as early as the 2nd century CE. They evolved in the later dynasties, and were used throughout Asia for extensive ocean voyages. They were found, and in lesser numbers are still found, throughout Southeast Asia and India, but primarily in China.
