This female Arakan forest turtle, that produced four eggs in January 2007, is the mother of a seven-day old baby turtle hatched at Zoo Atlanta, the only facility in the world to successfully breed the species, is on display in the zoo's House of Reptiles in Atlanta on May 1, 2007. Once believed to be extinct for almost 100 years, the turtles were found in the mid-90s in Asian food markets. Only 12 specimens, in four institutions, exist in North America. While two hatchlings have not survived in recent days, the fourth egg is in incubation and expected to hatch soon.
