Ypres-Ieper WW1 Battlefield, 1914-1918, Messines Church Crypt, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. February 2014 Messines Church on the Messine Ridge to the south of Ypres. The Crypt is all that remains of the original church destroyed in WW1. Adolf Hitler after being wounded in the shoulder was a patient here in the German medical station in 1914. He also painted a number of water colours here while a patient.
