World War 1 in the Middle East. Turkish and Arab troops, the Suez Expeditionary Force of 25,000, muster on the Plain of Esdraelon. The Ottoman Fourth Army, commanded by General Ahmed Cemal (Far Left, with cane), engaged British Empire troops at Suez on Feb. 2-3, 1915,and suffered 2,000 casualties (to the British 150) before they retreated back to Beersheba, Palestine.
