Wilhelmina Schroeder-Devrient (1804-1860) was one of the great dramatic singers and operatic tragediennces. Her greatest fame and triumph followed her appearance in Fidelio, her conception of which, was thoroughly approved of, even by the composer, Beethoven. She was connected with Dresden Opera for 20 years. On good terms with composers, including Wagner. Greatest triumphs came in German opera and she did much to make it popular.
