On the 18th July 2014, humid conditions caused dramatic thunder and lightning storms across the country. The weather phenomenon known as an "Electrical Storm" created spectacular displays of forked lightning that are usually seen in a more tropical climate. The then disused Coryton Refinery, Essex (now demolished) created a dramatic setting for the lightning display that lasted over 2 hours on the late summer evening.
