These groups live on approximately 600, 000 hectares of forest area - which makes only 1/10 of the Total National Park, that is currently controlled. Before the last outbreak of war with Rwanda there was about 10, 000 living Mountain Gorillas. Many of them have been killed over the years by people and today the habitat of the mountain gorillas is threatened by humans again. The Congolese government has recently launched the oil company Total's rights to drilling permits to drill in the National Park of oil deposits. Although the Group has protested to stay away from the sheltered area of the mountain gorillas, but with the clause that if it meets with success in the current air hole area to expand its search in the adjacent areas. This mountain gorilla group called Chimanuka and consists of 36 gorillas. Their leader Chimanuka is 25 years old and weighs approximately 250 Kg
