The Sphere, a sculpture in bronze by the German artist Fritz Koenig originally commissioned in 1966 and installed at the base of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York seen in its new location at Battery Park in Lower Manhattan. The sculpture was damaged by the falling towers and was removed from the debris to this location on March 11, 2002, 6 months after the 9-11 tragedy. It is installed in Battery Park as a temporary memorial to the victims who died on 9-11. The building at right in the background is the Alexander Hamilton Customs House at One Bowling Green. The buildings in the distance are offices on Broad Street in the Financial District.
