The rescue of Israel Putnam, published in 1887. Putnam, an American army General, was captured by the Caughnawaga Mohawk community in 1758 while leading the Connecticut force in the French and Indian war. He was saved from being burnt alive by a French officer. The caption reads 'An episode of the French and Indian War - rescue of Israel Putnam'.
