More information:

The remnants of Wintzel s Oyster Restaurant in the wake of a storm surge caused by Hurricane Katrina. The building was washed out to sea by the massive wave of water that came ashore in the peak of the storm. The only things left stinging are the support pilings and, amazingly, a red gum ball machine. Dog River, Mobile County, Alabama. Although Hurricane Katrina made landfall well to the west, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle were both affected by tropical-storm force winds and a storm surge varying from 12 to 16 feet (3.7–4.9 m) around Mobile Bay, with higher waves on top. Sustained winds of 67 mph (108 km/h) were recorded in Mobile, Alabama, and the storm surge there was approximately 12 feet (3.7 m). The surge caused significant flooding several miles inland along Mobile Bay.
