More information:

The construction of this neck gable twin was commissioned by the wood merchant Jan Teeringh. The houses were erected in the Dutch Baroque style and completed in 1665. It is possible that Justus Vingboons was the architect, but this is not certain. The remarkable claw pieces consist of a male and female figure with empty cartouches (framing), made from the same material as the rest of the façade, namely sandstone. Both figures on number 390 were holding a sculpted cord, the symbol for marital union, but this has disappeared on number 392. Both façades have a triangular pediment and some hanging festoons. The house on number 390 has lost its doorstep. Its entrance has, as is quite common, been lowered to street level. Herengracht 392 was hit by a fire in 1969, which ruined the interior, but the façade was restored. The fine Louis XV-style interior of the neighbouring building dates back to 1760, when the merchant Jan Bruijn Abrahamsz had a major renovation conducted.
