The house on Newtown Common in Hampshire, belonging to Tony Webb, on the day he and other local residents celebrated their victory against a Court of Appeal ruling that they and their predecessors had not acquired a right to cross the common, despite doing so unhindered for more than 20 years. Today's decision was a defeat for the owner of the common, Bakewell Management, which admitted that it took action against the residents to make money by demanding payment for what they had always taken as free and for granted.
