The flight deck of the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal with Harrier GR9's and a Merlin helicopter as the ship prepares to get underway after her final visit to Newcastle and the Tyne where she was built. These are the last UK Harriers ever deployed on a Royal Navy aircraft carrier and less than a month later on 15 December 2010 after forty one years of service this iconic aircraft was retired from service with the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force eight years earlier than planned.
